Your private transfer meets you at the airport and escorts you to your hotel.

The rest of day is at your leisure.

Overnight in Hanoi

When the morning bustle of the streets comes wafting by your hotel, you are ready and excited to once again step out into the streets of Hanoi. After breakfast, you are met by your guide who will take you through the various streets of the city that encompass a millennium of culture and evolution. A bicycle rickshaw, also known as a cyclo will tour you through the Old Quarter. You can see locals wearing conical hats carrying large woven baskets strapped to their bicycles filled with gorgeous flowers ready for sale within the old market.

Then visit the imposing marble edifice housing the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Mondays & Fridays and annually in October & November for restoration) before moving onto his wooden stilt house. Visit the One Pillar Pagoda dating from the 11th century; this monument was rebuilt after being destroyed by the French in 1954. Tour the Temple of Literature, a peaceful series of walled courtyards and graceful gateways. Founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius, this was also the site of Vietnam's first university. In the afternoon, visit the Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) and the Hoan Kiem Lake & Ngoc Son Temple.

In the evening, you will delight in your first taste of Vietnam at a charming restaurant within a French Colonial building before arriving at the famous Water Puppet Theater. The traditional entertainment stems from the 11th-century paddy fields which flooded during the monsoon season. You watch the history and mythology of the countryside come to life over a series of stories that dance on the water’s surface with intense interest from the players and the crowd alike.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Early morning, you will make your way out of the city to the treasured shores of Halong Bay. The magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site covers over 1,000 square miles filled with emerald waters and many islands. Limestone karsts slope down into the water and are dotted with lush greenery. Beaches stretch back into the tree line where dense forests begin. The beauty of the cave speaks to the legend of the grotto’s namesake. Stalactites catch the light and beam a rainbow of colors along the stone. The water current drifts slowly. The interior looks like a palace made of natural stone and has been polished by time. The only sound you hear is the trickle of the water. The single sight you see is the endless shining shapes of the mountain’s interior.

Overnight on boat.

It is hard to miss a sunrise like the one over Halong Bay. You can see the colors resting on the horizon, slowly lifting above the karsts, bringing a glare and a glow to the day while bouncing off of the emerald water. Enjoy the morning on the ship and continue your cruise through the 1000's of limestone islets rising from the bay. Upon your return to the pier in Halong, you will be met for your return transportation to the airport in Hanoi for your departure flight to Hue in Central Vietnam and then transfer to your hotel for check-in and have the evening at your leisure.
