One of Vietnam’s most important destinations is Hue on the central coast. A city of enormous historical and cultural significance, it’s a great place to visit. It sits on the bank of the Perfume River. During the American War, its position between North and South placed it close to the DMZ and saw heavy military action. The Complex of Hue Monuments here is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of many important attractions. The citadel was badly damaged by allied bombing, but still makes an interesting attraction and receives many visitors. Two thirds up between Saigon and Hanoi, it is a stop on the >Reunification Express.
