Hoi An could lay claim to be the prettiest town in the whole of Vietnam. The small sleepy city on the east coast of the country has developed at its own pace, seemingly unaffected by the race for modernity, applied by others. The city is famous for making paper lanterns and the nighttime vista down by the waterfront is a truly wonderful sight. Every shop, bar and restaurant has lanterns of different colours lighting up the night sky. The other famous industry here is tailoring and any one of hundreds of shops will make fabulous garments in 24 hours or so. The Old Town is yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site and is extremely picturesque, especially at night. The Japanese Covered Bridge and Central Market are recommended visits.
