Just over 100km from Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, lies Halong Bay. This magnificent 1,550 sq km sea based paradise has won many international awards. It was inscribed into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1994 and was named as one of “The Seven Wonders of Nature” in a world wide survey in 2012. It is a section of the Bay of Tonkin that has 1,960 islands and islets. These are limestone karst formations that rise up out of the water and tower above the many cruise boat tours that ply their trade here. A member of the “Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World”, Halong Bay is a must among things to do on any Vietnam vacation. The bay is full of attractions from the famous fishing villages to the beautiful Cat Ba Island.
