Battambang (pronounced Ba-tam-bong) is one of Cambodia’s low-key gems! Despite the city lacking the notoriety that other Cambodian cities possess, it is equally as vibrant. It is full of beautiful cafes and has a calming atmosphere that allows you to relax that little bit extra.
This region is located in northwestern Cambodia. It is the second-largest city in this country and the heart of the same-named province. You can come to Battambang in only 3 hours from Siem Reap and in twice as long as Phnom Penh. Battambang is like no other city in Cambodia.
Battambang is Cambodia's second-largest city and the capital of Battambang Province, which was founded in the 11th century. It is the former capital of Monton Kmer and lies in the heart of the Northwest of Cambodia. Until the war, in which almost every infrastructure was destructed it was the leading rice-producing province of the country.
The city is a peaceful and pleasant place these days. Its main parts are situated closed to the Sangker River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way through Battambang Province. It is a picturesque place with breath-takingsetting. As with much of Cambodia, the French -style architecture is an attractive bonus of the city.
